Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

The help page "Suspending and hibernating your computer" has a link to Quirk Checker script at <http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/quirk/quirk-suspend-debug.html> in the section "My computer does not suspend or hibernate correctly." The news on freedesktop.org indicates that they had a power failure recently and lost data hosted on one of their servers, which apparently included Quirk Checker. I was not able to find it elsewhere on the site.

I found a version of the quirk-checker script on the Mandriva forums - http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=106967

It seems a little outdated, and has some information that may be incorrect in it now. For example, I think HAL has been removed from Lucid, the NVIDIA and ATI drivers should support suspend, etc... And of course, it is not specific to Debian/Ubuntu. I think it may be better if we simply remove this section from the docs. If Ubuntu developers want to write something with a similar purpose, I think that would be more appropriate.

For the reasons listed in my previous comment, I have removed this section from the Lucid docs. If Ubuntu developers release a similar tool in the future, we should include info about it in the docs. If anybody has other ideas for users to easily troubleshoot suspend/hibernate/resume problems, please don't hesitate to bring them forward. Thank you.

could somebody provide something similar to the quirk-checker script for the new setup (for lucid) without HAL? it was useful...
i, for one, have a problem with suspend and hibernate and would like to fix it... quirk-checker helped with this!

i have sent in bug reports, but being able to do something oneself and not burden others is nice!

thank you

I just realized that I google takes you to the 9.10 documentation for hibernate/suspend, and the "quirk checker" tool no longer exists, so I will not be running it.

Sorry, commented on the wrong bug -- but I guess it's relevant here too.

Search google for "ubuntu hibernate" (http://www.google.com/search?q=ubuntu+hibernate) and the first result is entitled "Suspending and Hibernating your computer" but it's easy to miss the fact that it is 9.10 documentation, and a year out of date.

A possible solution could be to put a link on that page to the hibernate/suspend page for the current distribution, if that's possible.
