This is a metabug for users:
1) Having the Realtek ALC887-VD HDA codec
2) Trying to run "alsamixer" results in an error

This bug has been fixed upstream, so current workaround would be to install https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules
