I had top running in a terminal window on my gnome desktop the last time the bug event happened, and it looked like top stopped updating the information being displayed until the system became responsive once again. I will create an ssh connection from my laptop which is running Ubuntu 9.10 to the system I am having problems with. When the Lucid system stops responding, I will see if there is any response in a previously active ssh session.
