This is very strange. Since Maverick Merkaat y internal mic stopped working. Now, thanks to a thread in ubuntuforum (1769886) I discovered that opening pavucontrol and setting the "right" channel to anything lower than the "left" channel makes the mic work again.
The problem is that adjusting the volume of the internal mic with the sound applet locks the two channel again at the same level, and the mic stops working.
I tried in Natty the ppa-drivers and there was no difference.
The external mic works in any case.
