Bug Description

Looking at the 'Today scope' on my handset today, I note that the Moon is described as:

Moon: waninggibbous

when I would expect:

Moon: Waning gibbous

ubuntu-touch/rc-proposed/bq-aquaris.en, krillin, 65:

We currently use the string provided by timeandate.com. If English, we could use the string as a key to dict and get the proper string for display.

As mentioned in the duplicate report, also needs translations support.

....and it looks like at least the POT file already has them? (I just didn't know about this sub-scope before)

I can confirm that https://translations.launchpad.net/day-scope does seem to work now, so any language that has translations there should have them.

Fixed for Finnish in OTA-7 for me.

Possibly the en_GB translations should be at least added still however? https://translations.launchpad.net/day-scope/trunk/+pots/day/en_GB/+translate

I put some more suggestions in for en_GB. Not sure how to progress them.

en_GB now put into use by popey so those should be fixed for the next language packs.

I believe there's still the problem that the default "English" (en_US, C) strings are of the form of what they are, and the scope would actually need to do internal mapping of the service states to have proper strings to translate in the first place.

Timo is right in comment #7.

One thing we might consider is in code remapping the moon phase as received from the web api to a the proper space-separated moon phase and using that as the basis for translations.

This would require modifying the msgids in the current po files from LP so that they too include the space, then submitting them back to LP.

While this would be a bit of work, I think it would fix the problem properly such that the string displayed to translators would be, for example: "waxing gibbous" instead of "waxinggibbous"
