Bug Description

[Fixed]
It was the iso file that was the problem.
http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/8.04/ubuntu-8.04-beta-desktop-i386.iso
Use the i386.iso and you won't have the same problem!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

The installation of Ubuntu 8.04 beta just crash, and it don't say why!? (Dos it have anything to do with the "hardy-desktop-amd64.iso" file?)

It only suggest me to send the log file so I hope it is going too solve this problem.

Or can the problem be Ubuntu itself?

Regards,
Andreas88

PS: It crashes when it is installing Ubuntu from the CD.

The amd64 ISO should also work (on 64 bit processors), if it does not, it's a bug.

This is using a post-beta version of Ubiquity. Why is Wubi downloading the ISO rather than using the contents of the beta CD?

Andreas88,

When you were having problems the first time, did you use Wubi with an ISO file (*i386.iso) or with a physical CD? Was that beta or post-beta?

To be more precise, I see from the log you ended up using the Daily Build amd64 (20080408.1), but did you start with a physical BETA CD and then Wubi downloaded that for you or did you have that ISO downloaded separately or burnt as a CD?

Agostino Russo,

When I did run the program the first time I just let it do what it wanted, but the second I replaced the amd64.ISO with the i386.ISO in the ubuntu-backup folder that Wubi made. (sadly it didn't do much with the old (7.04) userfiles.) So to make it clear I did not use any physical CD only the i386.ISO that i downloaded from Ubuntu.com

This bug was fixed in the package ubiquity - 1.8.3

---------------
ubiquity (1.8.3) hardy; urgency=low

  [ Colin Watson ]
  * Make all text in the partitioner translatable (LP: #144741).
Unfortunately we don't have time to get translations in place for 8.04,
but there ought to be time to do this for 8.04.1. This also involved
moving the "Undo changes to partitions" button to a second line in order
    to avoid excessive horizontal growth.
  * Adjust po-debconf flags in ubiquity/install/copying_error/md5, so that
    ${FILE} doesn't get translated.
  * Offer a list of mount points when creating a partition (LP: #85713).
Adjust this list (and also that offered when editing a partition) if the
file system is changed to FAT or NTFS.
  * Guard against division by zero while copying files (LP: #211503).
  * Ensure that "Location for the new partition" always defaults to
    "Beginning" (LP: #207810).
  * Stop X forwarding code from breaking if we aren't running within X
    (LP: #214211).

  [ Evan Dandrea ]
  * Update the translations from Rosetta.
  * Automatic update of included source packages: debian-installer-utils
    1.50ubuntu3, localechooser 1.42ubuntu5, partman-basicfilesystems
    56ubuntu4.

  [ Jonathan Riddell ]
  * Fix exception in edit partitions dialogue use in kde_ui
  * Add minimum size to partition_edit_dialog.ui, closes LP: #203626
  * Fix buttons on question dialogue to use supplied text, closes LP: #203660

Thanks,

The ISO was the Problem.

When I Installed the Nvidia Driver for my cheap Geforce 6200 video card I
was Amazed!
Microshaft beware, there is a free operating system that makes Windows XP
look like you just bought a car from the Junk Yard, not to mention that you
don't have to worry about security, spyware, etc.

Thanks
