Bug Description

Dear all,

I suggest to disable the right mouse click feature on wingpanel icons. Currently it opens the tooltip menu but within that menu does not react to any selection.

I can only invoke any selection in the tooltip using the left mouse click initially.

Regards,

Robert

Thanks for assigning the bugs correctly, Adolfo! I am still new to the elementary OS bug tracker. Next time I know where to the file the bug reports.

Robert, are you using Luna?

We have corrected this behavior in Freya.

Hello Victor,

I am using Freya Beta 2 with the latest installed updates.

I cannot confirm that right mouse click on wingpanel icons is no longer accessible.

The context menu still shows up on both left and right mouse click.

Hey Robert,

That's right. Both right and middle click bring up a menu, but selections still work fine. I hope I'm not misunderstanding your report :P

Hey Victor,

Strangely not for me.

What does work:

1. Left click on the power icon in the top right -> Left click on System Settings -> Opens System Settings

What does NOT work:

2. Right click on the power icon in the top right -> Left click on System Settings -> System Settings does NOT open

Very interesting. Both (1) and (2) opened system settings here. I'm using a regular USB mouse.

I just tried my external USB mouse but it does not support right mouse clicks followed by a left click either.

What seem to work is first right mouse click on the icon and then again right mouse click on a menu entry.

But what still does not work for me is right mouse click on the icon and then left mouse click on a menu entry.

Indeed a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/wingpanel/+bug/1448450, but in fact the same as this one too: https://bugs.launchpad.net/elementaryos/+bug/1367204

I am commenting here just to say that the issue is not completely described in any of these as far as I can tell.

There are two events here:

STEP 1. right and left click on a taskbar icon (keyboard layout, sound, network, power, etc) have both the same effect: a menu is displayed

(this is a bit unusual and can be seen as a bug since on all other systems I've seen left and right click on a such icon triggers different effects)

STEP 2. to use the menu, one has to click the same mouse button that was used to show the menu at STEP 1.

That's why left click is not working on a menu triggered with right-click and right click is not working on a menu triggered with left click on the icon. That is more than unusual, it's misleading: left and right click have the same effect (menu appears ) but only to a point (to use the menu left and right click are not interchangeable anymore)

Therefore, a solution can be imagined as:

A. right-click should trigger a different effect than left click on a taskbar icon

OR

B. right-click and left click should trigger the same effect all the way: open menu by left or right clicking the icon and select a menu entry with left or right no matter the mouse button initially used to show the menu
