I can still get mail of course with 'g', but that does not reset the timer. Has anyone else seen this behavior? running VM8.1.0 in GNU Emacs 23.1.1 using POP protocol

It has stopped in my work email (which I generally have up for a long time in
emacs daemon mode). Here is the current value of timer-list:
([t 19499 22192 808743 60 vm-get- mail-itimer- function mail-itimer- function itimer- function
(#1)
nil]
[nil 19518 26592 0 60 appt-check nil nil]
[nil 19518 26633 709255 300 vm-check-
(#1)
nil]
[nil 19518 26637 30690 90 vm-flush-
(#1)
nil])
Thanks,
