GBP was offered as a payment type for Ubuntu One services sold at one.ubuntu.com (20-Packs and Ubuntu One Mobile add-ons) after the 10.10 release. We discovered that many customers paying with GBP were using cards that required 3D Secure authentication and we had not accounted for this. The result was consistent payment failures for the customer (not a good experience).

We disabled that currency until we could figure out a solution. Ubuntu One will soon transition to a consolidated payment infrastructure being built by another team at Canonical so we decided to wait until this process is completed. It should be done soon and will bring more and faster innovation in the payment types and currencies that Ubuntu One supports. Please watch our blog for more information.
