Identical error on my Win 8 x64 installation. A few more details FWIW:

1) Error dialog as reported as soon as client opens up.

2) Dismiss dialog, client shows local Ubuntu One folder only with File Sync disconnected.

3) Click "Connect", hangs on "Loading... Please Wait" indefinitely

4) Client can be closed.

5) ubuntuone.com/account page shows that client device was successfully linked.
