This affects me too after upgrading from 18.04 LTS to 20.04 and I fint it COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.
The use of symlinks from /home to data on larger drives (which are shared between windows and linux systems, and not unix FS) is industry standard since over 30 years and this regression is atrocious. I will remove the snap and install the .DEB until it is resolved. My root disk is too small for the files i need to upload so a symlink to the storage drive which is permanently mounted in fstab under /datasjoe is necessary. The implication you have also broken access to removable media by default is likewise idiocy, any user is right in assuming he/she can acess theyir usb drves anywhere in their desktop system. Think again.
