As another amateur enthusiast, I would recommend Plato first because of his socratic dialogues in the Republic. After that it really is up to you, but I personally recommend Nietzsche and Schopenhauer (psychoanalysis). Compared to other philosophers, they are more like psychologists in the way that they deal with morality.
