Without nvidia drivers, when on the tty1, I get these when lid is closed:

xfsettingsd-WARNING **: No available CRTC for LVDS-1
xfsettingsd-WARNING **: No available CRTC for LVDS-1
xfsettingsd-WARNING **: Failed to configure CRTC 95
xfsettingsd-WARNING **: Failed to configure CRTC 96
