Hi!
I've installed Ubuntu Warty on my reactivated older P233 128MB, S3 3c5..Card,
Serial Mouse on com1 - Now runs like hell, very fast. I hat following problems:
1. Mouse detect: Ubuntu Warty Live cd does not recognize mouse. mdetect suggests
/dev/psaux intellimouse. First mdetect needs mouse to be moved during install.
Second - rmmod psmouse and rmmod mousedev before running mdetect. Seems, the
driver emulates a mouse, delivers info to mdetect. After having removed kernel
drivers, running mdetect, it successfully came out: /dev/ttyS0 logitech ...
2. Mouse jumps at resolutions 1024x768 after having configured Xfree86
xf86config or xf86cfg...There was no interrupt problem ...
Putting following excludes into /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 helped:
# **********************************************************************
# Module section -- this section is used to specify
# which dynamically loadable modules to load.
# **********************************************************************
#
Section "Module"
# This loads the DBE extension module.
Load "dbe" # Double buffer extension
# This loads the miscellaneous extensions module, and disables
# initialisation of the XFree86-DGA extension within that module.
SubSection "extmod"
Option "omit xfree86-dga" # don't initialise the DGA extension
EndSubSection
Now XFree worked at resolutions 1024x768, but there was much flickering ...
Changing Clock frequency from 60 to 72 or 87 MHz helped ...see xvidtune...
My old P233 with 128 MByte RAM, 6 GByte with GNOME Desktop 2.8 runs very fine,
but there are some errors left with german keyboard layout ... but that's
another problem i have to find out ....;-)
