Do I read https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25262 right when I say that this is saying that Xorg does not support ANY settings OF ANY KIND done by the user, and that it's somehow working as intended that the user's preferences are wiped whenever Xorg feels like it?
