Confirmed on Ubuntu 9.04 with French Aluminium keyboard (AZERTY layout).

The work-around here is :

xmodmap -e 'keycode 94=at numbersign periodcentered Ydiaeresis' -e 'keycode 49=less greater VoidSymbol VoidSymbol'
