If it's a serial touchscreen, try these instructions from Brian Murray:

If it's a usb touchscreen, try uninstalling xserver-xorg-input-wacom.
Hopefully after the above your touchscreen will be using the X evdev input module. It has support for multitouch, which will then work with uTouch for gestures.
