The issue is again (or still) a matter within Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (here 14.04.2) with the following parameters:

xrandr --delmode DP1 1920x1080i X Error of failed request: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (RRDeleteOutputMode) Serial number of failed request: 44 Current serial number in output stream: 45
