I noticed an error in my original bug report. There is no "B" at the end of the Volume names. This doesn't seem to be relevant though. I changed the label to "LaTeX_8GB". It was then mounted as /media/LaTeX_8GB on Jaunty, but /media/LATEX_8GB on Karmic. Hence this does not seem dependent on the name.
Here is the output of "sudo blkid" on Karmic.
/dev/sda2: TYPE="swap" 3b63-4d34- 9a67-c35ba38d49 15" TYPE="ext4"
/dev/sda5: UUID="935c65b7-
/dev/sdc1: LABEL="KINGSTON_8G" UUID="4A4C-DD52" TYPE="vfat"
The KINGSTON_8G line is the same in jaunty.
