Bug Description

On Ubuntu Touch so far (vivid, mid-March 2015), it is still necessary to unlock the screen after it shuts off, even if the screen was only off for a few seconds. This is inconvenient, and it would be much easier if the lock didn't activate for ~10 seconds after the screen turns itself off.

If the user activates the screen-off event by tapping the power button, then it's okay to lock immediately. If the screen times out though, it should probably delay before locking, to give the user a chance to turn the screen back on.

I'm not sure this makes sense as the suggested change would be a violation of the locking timeout. The correct fix is to just:

System Settings > System > Security & Privacy > Lock phone > Lock when idle > After 10 minutes

You can also get to that setting though:

Daniel, setting the screen to only lock after 10 minutes is not an option.

This setting needs to be split up into two:

* Turn off screen after ...
and
* Lock screen after ...

Probably the one in "Setting > System > Battery" should only deal with turning off the screen, while the other in security should deal with the interval when the lock code is activated.

The request seems to be to do what android does, which means that if the screen starts locking on idle, give some time to the user to react and create activity before it's actually locked. It's not really a demand to have different settings for power off and locking...

I for one still believe those settings should be separate... Those are different settings for other phones (probably nor all of them) and also on Ubuntu Desktop. Just because the the screen saver kicks in you don't necessarily require the user to authenticate again.

Anyhow, clearly a question for ubuntu-ux.

@Michael, sure, that's a valid request, but it's different/orthogonal from what is asked there. We could have 2 settings implemented but the request from here would still be valid for the locking case (I guess we want to animate the pre-locking to indicate it's going to kick in, and then let a small margin for the user to react)

Daniel, the setting "System > Security & Privacy > Lock phone > Lock when idle" sets how long the phone will wait, if left untouched, before locking the screen. I currently have it set to 1 minute. However, if I press the power button to turn off the screen, and then immediately press the power button to turn the screen back on again, I must enter my PIN again; this is not controlled by the above setting. At the moment, the phone basically locks every time the screen is turned off, and as far as I can tell I can't change that without completely disabling locking. What I'd like (and what I believe Selene is requesting) is that "turn off the screen" does not always mean "and lock the screen".
