I tried it on ibus-anthy, ibus-skk and ibus-mozc with your patch.
It works fine! Pre-edit texts are shown now.

It can't show the background for selecting segments.
But I think it is not a critical problem because we will not type long texts.
Step to repro (for mozc or anthy on Japanese environment)
1. type "gaikannnosettei"
2. it shows "がいかんのせってい"
3. press [space]
4. then, it will be converted to "外観の設定"
5. if you want to convert it to "概観の設定" or "外環の設定" or ..., it is difficult because you can't find selected segment.
