Not only is samba not installed by default, which it should be but when installed it doesn't work. Then there is the System Settings -> Sharing -> File Sharing which allows you to set up files to share using samba. Of course the dialog doesn't tell you if samba is working, not working, or not installed and there is no way from that dialog to fix it.
