Thanks for looking into this bug.

Re unreliable w/o sshfs:

No, 20.04.1 LTS is quite reliable; so far the only crash has been while
using sshfs; when I'm not using sshfs, it works fine.

Re unbootable:

I don't think it has anything to do with grub; the sshfs crash mucks up the
boot drive file system, so that I have to fsck it using another computer.
But most of the time the boot drive is so mucked up, that fsck can't
fix it enough to boot.
