Bug Description

On Oneiric, both in Software center and Update manager's description tab the deja dup description starts with "D?j? Dup is a simple backup tool". This does not happen on Natty, the name is displayed fine there, so marking this with regression-release.

It sounds like you are not in a UTF-8 locale... What do you get when you run "echo $LANG" in a Terminal?

Here's the output of the locale command (I'm on an oneiric chroot)

Running this command can reproduce the problem:

LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=en_US:en LC_ALL=C software-center

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not (i.e. if LC_ALL=C is a reasonable thing to expect to still work right). Moving to software-center.

Thanks a lot for reporting this, however I am unable to reproduce the behaviour you describe. Can you please confirm whether or not the description of Deja Dup is still garbled?

Yes, I am still able to reproduce this, with the command "LC_ALL=C software-center".
