sudo snap set system experimental.hidden-snap-folder=true
I had to move some folders from ~/snap to ~/.snap/data manually, rather than wait for a new version of those snaps in order for a refresh to migrate them. But after uninstall / reinstall of the ones I moved manually, I now no longer have a ~/snap directory.
I don't think there's any bug here. This is working as intended and there's a working alternative for folks who don't want ~/snap.
