The effectively forced use of Snap is what finally drove me to abandon Ubuntu. This issue played a part in that.
To be clear, I am in favor of app isolation on desktop linux, and I find container-based packaging useful in certain situations. However, the Snap project has demonstrated over and over again that the people driving it fail to grasp important issues like user agency and open systems. Like Alex, I find the result intolerable. Being rid of it was worth the temporary pain of switching distros.

So long, Ubuntu, and thanks for all the fish.
