I just want to clarify what is going on. Changing this in the source code is possible but not very easy as the value is spelled out in a very peculiar way in the apparmor profile for snap-confine and all the snaps. We will eventually get there bug we need to implement the epoch system first so that we can ensure that users who migrate to ~/.snap (or whatever else the path is) won't be able to go back to a version of snapd that doesn't understand this. This is the work that John referred to.
