Also, the same issue did occur on i686 arch for Ubuntu 11.04.

PC:
Dell D755

Arch : i686

Steps to reproduce:
1 Install VirtualBox- 4.0.8 r71778

2 reboot PC, then change to root account (i.e su )

3 Start VirtualBox

4 Refer to the Error info from Terminal

Workaround:
1. Try to change to "root" account with the following command:
$ su --login root

Then, start VirtualBox;
$ VirtualBox
