I just heard about a possibly relevant issue. Although I don't have any direct evidence that this is the cause, could this be related to the interaction between exception handling and the switch to VFP? :

Since this is a recent issue it is likely not to be fixed in mainline yet— I will try to get patches and post links to patches when I have them available.
