I can also confirm that this bug still exists. I tried all above solutions, but these did not helped me. I am also getting black screen if I am using NVIDIA adapter.

OS: Ubuntu 14.04.1 64bit
Laptop: Acer E5-571G
GPU(s): GeForce GT 840 and Intel HD 4400
Desktop: Unity
Kernel: 3.13.0-45-generic
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-4210U
