This bug is not limited to your ZTE 4g dongle, I have a
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 1410:9010 Novatel Wireless Expedite E362
(built into a chromebook-pixel) and have the same issues with NetworkManager after I upgraded from 13.04 to 14.04 while wvdial works OK on 14.04 and establishes a UMTS connection.
