This bug is not fixed, it should be reopened, and is in serious discussion upstream.
In gnome 2.22, take nautilus, put into list view, go to any directory where are more files one nautilus screen can display, so the scroll basrs appear.
Now take a file from otherwhere and try to drag&drop it into the CURRENT directory in nautilus -sit is not possible, you can just take the subdirs.
There is no "white gap space" like in symbol view.
That should definitely be possible for a modern file browser.
