The fix for this specific issue was https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/845/diffs?commit_id=822c0ebc6889f90f19b5fc3056414cae5046e2b8

but we can't reintroduce it until a general solution for https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2328 exists again.
