I tested the upstream kernel (2.6.36-rc3). When I enable cpuidle, the kernel freezes on boot without a message. When I disable it, the system runs fine.
Same for the Ubuntu -generic kernel: 2.6.35-17 (with CONFIG_INTEL_IDLE=m) boots fine, 2.6.35-19 (with CONFIG_INTEL_IDLE=y) freezes on boot.
with INTEL_IDLE, the system freezes hard (not even the magic SysRq keys work), so I cannot provide any logs. When I boot without "quiet splash", I also see no error message that could help.
If I can provide anything else that helps, just ask.
