It works with nomodeset. I also "tried" bisecting the bug and got the result:

Which doesn't make sense to me, so perhaps I did something wrong. Also of note, it is fixed in 2.6.33-rc1 (2.6.33-rc2 doesn't boot on my hardware which I think is unrelated - http://lkml.org/lkml/2009/12/25/35)
