Some more info on poor on-battery performance:

While on battery, the CPU frequency is scaled back to 931Mhz. The "ondemand" frequency governor does not increase the cpu frequency while running the benchmark.

The contents of scaling_available_frequencies in sysfs lists frequencies from 931Mhz to 1597Mhz, but I never see any frequency other than 931Mhz while on battery...

This might be a configuration issue.
