The current version of the patch, as per the suggestions of Mateusz (thank you Mateusz for your original fix), for your consideration is attached to the next entry in this bug report. It works (by dmi based auto detection) nicely on my Gigabyte laptop, fixing the original issue reported here.

Please review it at your earliest convenience & suggest any input (pun intended) you may have. Please keep in mind that I'm just a humble Linux user & am no kernel coder. I've tried to keep things, as far as possible, as per the current conventions of all the files being updated by this patch.

If you're happy with this patch & approach -- which I so sincerely hope you would be -- I kindly request you to get it merged upstream (even including -stable if possible). Thank you & much appreciated.
