I keep a Windows-to-Go drive around for just this sort of nonsense. I haven't run it for months. Running it now, and running the Lenovo update program, the only firmware update that I see (as against Windows software updates) is for Intel ME. So I suspect the following. I have the firmware update that you had in mind installed *already* (installed earlier via the same method) and it does not fix the problem for me.
