Toshiba Portege R500 (Graphics Processor Intel GMA 950, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU U7700 @ 1.33 GHz)
Downloaded the official lubuntu-17.10-desktop-amd64.iso on January 4th 2018, installed it from USB flashdrive without issues. Reboot => strange flash of screen during boot, X not showing up properly: black screen, graphical mouse cursor visible and moving, but no action possible. Possible to switch to text console with CTRL-ALT-F1 normally.
Updating the system did not help (having kernel 4.13.0-21).
/var/log/syslog contained the errors shown in the included files.
In the file /etc/default/grub I've commented out the line
#GRUB_TERMINAL=console
changing it to:
GRUB_TERMINAL=console
then issued:
sudo update-grub
then reboot, and things are nice, X comes as expected, I can login to graphical screen and everything works, and those errors in the included files are not present anymore.
Thank you for the hints!
Good luck fixing the bug.
