Hello,
I was able to install a -virtual kernel, however it's not showing up as a boot option.
This is what I have on a 14.04.1 build after enabling trusty-proposed branch in sources.list.
The OS is still booting with the -generic kernel and there is no -virtual kernel in grub after installing the package.

root@ubuntu14041:~# apt-get install linux-image-virtual/trusty-proposed
