I see the same issue, but without installing the nvidia driver. I have Trusty Tahr installed on an older machine with AMD/ATI video.
To recreate:
1. Set "Switch of display after" to "Never"
2. Logout
3. "Switch of display after" will be set to 1 minute, 10 minutes or 120 minutes.
Setting seems to be randomly set after log. I suspect the setting is simply not being saved or reloaded properly. Or it is being set to some random default value. I suspect problem independent of the hardware.
For me this is a problem, since once the display switches off, I can't wake it up again. Seems to be an issue between the monitor model and graphics interface. I have seen this happen before.
Unfortunately, my solution was to uninstall Light Locker for now and install the xscreensaver instead.
