got the same crash/traceback after the upgrade,

dyno@koala:ubuntu$dpkg-query -W pidgin libxml2
libxml2 2.6.32.dfsg-5ubuntu4
pidgin 1:2.5.5-1ubuntu7

and remove gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad solve the problem as Martin Albisetti said, no idea why it is relevant.
