Ants, unreproducible in Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit, LO Writer via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/772131/+attachment/2240138/+files/example.zip && file-roller -h example.zip && cd example && lowriter -nologo b.odt a.odt

both files opened in a couple seconds each.
