I removed libreoffice-gnome and -gtk3, and the problem went away. My version now shows:
Version: 7.4.2.3 / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 40(Build:3) CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 5.15; UI render: default; VCL: x11 Locale: en-GB (en_GB.UTF-8); UI: en-GB Ubuntu package version: 1:7.4.2~rc3-0ubuntu0.22.04.1~lo1 Calc: threaded
It's not as user friendly.
Note that my original problem only seems to occur when I open the start center already full screen from the last time I opened it.
