I confirm major breakup, with similar symptoms
I'm using last hardy (upgrade from gutsy), and i sometimes experience the alt key non functionning, with repeating keys non working. This is quite strange, because emacs reports correctly the input (ie M-x works as expected). Control and shift work as expected though.
I also found that the keyboard layout customization options such as make caps lock an additional control do not work when rebooting, unless you go back to the menu. Even if i go back to the menu, when the customization works, caps lock still makes the DEL switch on and off, while in gutsy it did not. Using xmodmap works ok though.
I can reproduce the bug by holding down the key to invoke Yakuake.
