This is getting creepier. Even though as I said in comment #66 I was able to fix this with modprobe i2c-i801, it no longer works after upgrading from 5.0.0-27-generic to 5.0.0-29-generic.

However, the fix from comment #16 works.

modprobe -r psmouse
modprobe psmouse
