Plasma 5 timer widget counts down too fast (goes down 2 seconds every second)

Bug Description
I just upgraded from Kubuntu 17.10 to 18.04.
The timer widget on my plasma desktop now counts down twice as fast as before, counting down 2 seconds every 1 second.
The displayed time goes down as follows:
24:50, 24:48, 24:46, 24:44...
