If this is still unresolved for you, please post the output from the following commands while the camcorder is connected and switched on:

grep -e 1394 -e firewire /proc/interrupts

ls /sys/bus/{ieee1394,firewire}/devices/

dmesg

lsmod

ls -l /dev/{raw1394,fw}*
