Well, the problem is that I don't know if it's a bug with gnome, samba or kate. Or maybe a combination of those. The only thing I can do is give you version numbers of my software which should lead to the right package. Here is the version numbers I missed supplying:
Kate: Version 3.6.5
As for samba, I don't have the version because what is weird is that apparently samba is not installed (cannot find smbd and smbstatus), but I am mounting a windows drive from the Fstab using the samba driver with this line and it works.
Maybe it's because samba is only use to emulate a netbeui service but is not required to connect via netbeui to another computer.
Anyways, considering that this bug seems to be a combination of events that will not happen to a lot of people, I was not expecting the bug to be fixed anytime soon. I'll probably have to let time do the work.
