have a look at dmesg. I have an A-Link DVB USB dongle, and I noticed in dmesg that there is no firmware! I installed the linux-firmware-nonfree package, which includes the A-Link firmware. Then remove adapter, re-insert, open kaffeine. Now open menu "Television" > "Configure Television" then select tab "Device 1". On "Device 1" tab select Source: Autoscan and press OK. Then go to menu "Television" > "Channels" - now "start scan" button is enabled.
Does this work for you? I think a new bug could be filed against Kaffeine, so that on Kaffeine would clearly indicate that no TV adapter is found, and perhaps even would suggest installing the missing firmware.
